Perception

I have made this point many times in the last few months, but I surely do hate to be right.

The current president’s first 100 days are being met with the PERCEPTION by America that he’s doing a wonderful, boffo, superb job.  Read any poll.

    So.

To all my conservative friends,I would ask if this surprises you?  It doesn’t me.  But it does sadden me.

I would also ask if you personally have felt,as I do,that this president’s first 100 days was so fraught with disaster,so full of idiocy,so totally devoid of substance, that surely any thinking sentient being would be trying to find ways to impeach him, right?  Isn’t that how you have felt?

If that’s true, then you should strongly consider that you are now so solidly in the small minority in this country that your beliefs are becoming fairly meaningless.   In other words, this guy is doing every thing differently than you wish it were being done, and yet your countrymen are loving every minute of it.

So where does this put us old curmudgeon conservatives?

I think first we have to stop deluding ourselves.   I have so many conservative friends who honestly think that “America will wake up and see this our way very soon”and that’s the entire bank that they are stashing their future in.   Yet it’s clearly not true.  Not only is it not true, the pendulum is continuing to swing the other way.  There seems to be no end to it.  Like Jim Jones or the Pied Piper, this fellow’s following keeps swelling both in number and in fervor.

We can either go merrily along with the throng,it seems,or go through life as the burr in the saddle of America’s conscience.

Honestly neither of those alternatives appeal very much to me.

And I’m not sure where that leaves me.

    • The last election showed me that all of the states bordering the ocean on the east and west think alike, and those that live there regard the balance of the USA as simply mindless fly over territory. I am most irked off by the millions of persons who don’t vote at all which serves to empower the left wing loons. I,too, don’t much expect the nation to truly return even to the center very soon.

      I appreciate the reply.

Actually, the logical conclusion of the point I made is that the result of your contention would be even more left leaning results. In other words,if every single American were required by law to vote,we’d be heavily left leaning, way more so than now.

We are truly in the minority. We delude ourselves to think otherwise.

The reasons WHY this is true are interesting and worthy of study. But the fact that they are true are pretty much indisputable. I would counsel those of us who think otherwise to heed a similar admonition to what the Lord told the Apostle Paul when he was still named Saul and fighting Christianity “Paul,it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks”…….

    • Whoa guys, don’t be too soon to completely write off the American electorate. It is natural for a new president to have a “honeymoon”period in which people of both parties want to give him the benefit of the doubt. However the Pew poll indicates there is the biggest approval gap between a president and the opposing party in modern history. http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1178/polarized-partisan-gap-in-obama-approval-historic
Of course you are not going to see this info on the evening news from the mainstream media, but recently MSNBC had a non-scientific approval poll by internet. This was a survey of over 109,000 individuals and Obama was given an “F”rating on his first months in office by 60% of the respondents.

The modern American electorate is a bunch of really dumb bunnies, but there is time to go yet. There is still hope that these folks will wise up when they see the full extent of what this idiot does.
