The decision for our participation in a “no fly zone”in protection of Lybian rebels, right or wrong is now history. What we are left with is a reality of our current involvement in Lybia. Although Obama is receiving heat (rightly so) from both sides of the political spectrum. It is coming first because of his indecision and delay while Qaddafi made significant gains, then by his suddenly entering the fray at the last moment without benefit of consent of Congress. It is interesting that the most vehement words of condemnation are actually coming from his left wing base.
Rep Kasinich (D-Ohio) has even used the the “I word,(impeachment). Although Kasinich spews this venom wrapped in “love of the constitution”he expressed no similar concern for the sanctity of that document while he was supporting the blatantly unconstitutional Obamacare. This is mostly political grandstanding and self serving oratory not serious indignation over a real constitutional abuse of power.
Like it or not,we are stuck with the current state of things,at least for a while. Stuck is a great word here because neither the Arab League,France or NATO wants the responsibility for leadership that Obama states he will be relinquishing in a “few days”. Obama is a reluctant wartime president that was dragged to this thing kicking and screaming and lost the opportunity to vote “present”as has been shown to be his usual preference. Being Commander-In-Chief is only fun when you can sit home and make empty rhetoric and “double-speak”that you can use in your current political campaign. When you have to actually make real world decisions that you can not deny tomorrow it becomes a whole nother thing. Welcome to the real world of leadership Barack.
I pray for the safety of our military personnel and I pray that this strange operation will ultimately succeed. However, will someone please just stand up and clearly explain what “success”is? I hope it means Qaddafi’s 41 year reign of terror in Lybia is soon to be over, but that is currently unclear. I also pray that when it ends Qaddafi’s regime is replaced by one that treats their people better than did Qaddafi. All people deserve better than what these poor folks have received for the past 40+ years.
My fervent hope is that those “rebels”we are supporting there really want the kind of democratic reforms they are proclaiming and are not just another Alkada,Hamas,“Brotherhood”,bunch of Islamacist loonies that are so prominent in the Mideast these days. I am convinced that Obama doesn’t know the difference,I certainly hope Sarkozi does since he was the true leader here.
Incidentally:Note how “The Arab League”screamed incessantly for this “no fly zone”only to crawl away hiding under their normally accustomed rocks when the first shot was fired. Of course is that actually surprising to anyone? Their past history would have predicted no less.
For the past week we have been witness to the depths of depravity of liberalism in Wisconsin. Fourteen elected Democratic representatives in the state’s senate have fled to another state to protect their supposed right to prevent the legislative process while thousands of teachers abandoned their classrooms to wave signs accusing the governor of being a Nazi supporter of Qadaffi and Mubarac. Democratic congressman Rep. Michael Capuano from Massachusetts told union workers in Wisconsin,“Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary.” Medical doctors from the University of Wisconsin pass out “sick notes” to union members that left their jobs to protest, some of them, teachers who took students with them closing down the schools while proclaiming they are “protecting the students”. This is not from minimum wage employees,it is from teachers and other public employee union members who are making upwards of $75,000 per year while forcing their state into bankruptcy!
These ridiculous tactics are being encouraged and orchestrated by the DNC with encouragement directly from the White House. Obama was quick to come out with comments about “ratcheting down the rhetoric”just a few weeks ago,but now totally turns a blind eye to the outrageous actions in Wisconson as well as similar events in Indiana, Ohio, and elsewhere as these states try to dig their way out of the looming likelihood of impending bankruptcy.
The national news media is quick to condemn the Tea Party and accuse them of everything from extremism to violence in their protests while they can produce not one single picture or video of such actions. All the while they say not a single word about the hundreds of documented and obvious extremist and fraudulent actions of the activists in Madison. They don’t even condemn Capuano for openly calling for violence in the streets of Madison!
Enough is enough. Everything possible should be done to strip these people of the public feedbag that they have strapped around their neck. The legislators that refuse to legislate should be stripped of their elected positions. Their seats should declared “vacated”by the governor and special elections scheduled to replace them with people that will actually show up to represent their constituents. Rep Capauno should be charged for attempting to incite a riot,a crime under federal law as well as in all fifty states! Teachers that were away from their jobs claiming “sick days”should be identified from the thousands of photos and videos available and fired for the fraud they perpetuated on the taxpayers of Wisconsin. Likewise for other public employees that participated illegally in this debacle should be terminated.
Physicians that falsified “sick notes” should have their licenses pulled and prohibited from practicing medicine in the future. That idiot that kept screaming “Fox lies,Fox lies” attempting to prevent Fox news reporters from accurately reporting the events should be deported just for extreme stupidity or perhaps referred to a local vet for neutering just to prevent the potential of spreading the insanity by breeding. Media representatives that turned a blind eye to the Nazi signs and rhetoric should, well since they are not public employees, they should be just ignored and their outlets boycotted by reasonable people.
We have a federal government that is $14 trillion (that’s a 14 followed by twelve zeros folks) and instead of making a serious effort to work on correcting that problem Obama submits a budget that perpetuates federal deficits for the foreseeable future. Obama and his Democratic cohorts ran up almost as much of that debt in two years as Bush did in eight yet continue to blame Bush for the current financial plight accepting none of the blame for themselves. Now when states attempt to correct for their looming bankruptcies he supports the status quo and advocates for the glutenous public service unions that are raping the taxpayers of the states of Wisconsin,Indiana,Ohio, and elsewhere with bloated contracts.
Enough is enough folks. We have teachers who can’t even spell, showing up with protest signs such as one I saw that proudly proclaimed “Sav are teachers”. They are illegally demonstrating with falsified claims for being out sick while protesting for the indefensibly bloated contracts that are bankrupting our states. Our schools are failing and children are graduating that are functionally illiterate while teachers in WI are protesting for contracts far in excess of what is found in the private sector. Nationally we are broke and quickly approaching the point of default and the situation is becoming more critical day by day. This insanity must stop or we will simply cease to exist as a nation.
by Ann Coulter 02/02/2011 Fresh off of blaming Jared Loughner’s killing spree in the Tucson mall on Sarah Palin, liberals are now blaming it on high-capacity magazines. They might as well imprison everyone named “Jared”to prevent a crime like this from ever happening again.
During the presidential campaign,Obama said:“I don’t know of any self-respecting hunter that needs 19 rounds of anything. You don’t shoot 19 rounds at a deer, and if you do,you shouldn’t be hunting.”It would have been more accurate for him to end that sentence after the word “hunter.”
It’s so adorable when people who wouldn’t know a high-capacity magazine from Vanity Fair start telling gun owners what they should want and need.
In fact,high-capacity mags put a predator like Loughner at a disadvantage because they are so long, unwieldy and difficult to conceal. This may be why the Tucson shooting appears to be the first spree killing involving a high-capacity magazine. It would have been easier for Loughner to bring two guns.
On the other hand, for a homeowner who is a poor marksman,a large-capacity clip could be a lifesaver.
But after every multiple murder, liberals come up with some crackpot idea to “do something”that invariably involves infringing on some aspect of our Second Amendment rights.
The ACLU won’t let us put nuts in mental hospitals and Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik wouldn’t lock up Loughner even after he had broken the law several times.
In an open society that includes Sheriff Dumbnik and the ACLU,deranged individuals may explode into murder and mayhem now and then. The best we can do is enact policies that will reduce the death toll when these acts of carnage occur.
There’s only one policy of any kind that has ever been shown to deter mass murder:concealed-carry laws. In a comprehensive study of all public,multiple-shooting incidents in America between 1977 and 1999,the highly regarded economists John Lott and Bill Landes found that concealed-carry laws were the only laws that had any beneficial effect.
And the effect was not small. States that allowed citizens to carry concealed handguns reduced multiple-shooting attacks by 60 percent and reduced the death and injury from these attacks by nearly 80 percent.
When there are no armed citizens to stop mass murderers, the killers are able to shoot unabated, even pausing to reload their weapons, until they get bored and stop. Some stop only when their trigger fingers develop carpal tunnel syndrome.
Consider just the school shootings —popular sites for mass murder because so many schools are “gun-free zones.”Or,as mass murderers call them,“free-fire zones.”
At Columbine High School, two students killed 12 people before ending the carnage themselves by committing suicide. They didn’t need high-capacity magazines because they were able to stop and reload.
At the Amish school shooting in 2006 in Lancaster County,Pennsylvania, the deranged killer murdered five little girls and then committed suicide.
In 1998,two students in Craighead County,Arkansas, killed five people, including four little girls, before the killers decided to stop and attempt an escape.
And in 2007,a deranged student killed 32 people at Virginia Tech —30 of them in a very short period of time in one building. He didn’t need high-capacity magazines because he had two guns and reloaded.
There was no one to stop him.
School shootings that have been halted were almost always stopped by the happenstance of an armed citizen on school property.
In 2002,an immigrant in Virginia started shooting his classmates at the Appalachian Law School in Grundy. Two of his classmates retrieved guns from their cars, forcing the killer to drop his weapon and allowing a third classmate to tackle him.
Three dead.
In Santee,Calif.,in 2001,when a student began shooting his classmates, the school activated its “safe school plan”—as the principal later told CNN —by sending a “trained campus supervisor”to stop the killer.
Possibly not realizing that he was in a gun-free zone, the killer responded by shooting the trained campus supervisor three times. Fortunately,an armed off-duty San Diego policeman happened to be bringing his daughter to school that day. With a gun,he stopped the killer and held him at bay until more police could arrive.
Two dead.
In 1997,a student at Pearl High School in Pearl,Miss.,had already shot several people at his high school and was headed for the junior high school when assistant principal Joel Myrick retrieved a .45 pistol from his car and pointed it at the gunman’s head, ending the slaughter.
Two dead.
In 1998,a student attending a junior high school dance at a restaurant in Edinboro,Pa.,started shooting, whereupon the restaurant owner pulled out his shotgun, chased the gunman from the restaurant and captured him for the police.
One dead.
See the pattern?
In response to Columbine, schools adopted “anti-bullying”policies;in response to Virginia Tech,eBay ceased selling magazines online;in response to the Tucson shooting, liberals want to ban the particular magazine Loughner used.
And then the next killer will come along with a different arsenal and a different motive, and the only way to stop him will be with an armed citizen with a gun.

By Ben Stein on 1.28.11 @ 6:10AM A few more humble notes for Mr. Obama about where we are today….
During the run up to the recent Congressional elections,I was on Larry King Live with a super smart man whose name I have forgotten. Larry asked a smart question. The question was,“Is Barack Obama a better campaigner than a President?”One of the men on the panel said,“Of course he is. When he is campaigning, all he has to do is promise things. When he’s President,he actually has to do things.”
The same is true for all politicians, but the problem is acute for Mr. Obama because he has promised things he simply cannot do.
He cannot make the U.S. more competitive with the Far East and with Germany unless and until he gets U.S. education up to a far better level than it is at now. He cannot do this without revolutionizing the lives of young Americans, turning them from sex, drugs, rap, and rock ‘n’roll to studying. This is far beyond his poor power to do. He cannot make an American worker who demands $30 an hour competitive with a Taiwanese worker who will work for $2 an hour with just as good equipment. He cannot make American college students who want to study film production into competitors with Chinese engineers. (Although I should say that America leads the world in making money off mass culture because we have by far the most imaginative and creative people on this planet in this arena living within a small radius in Southern California. Studying film production is not studying engineering but for the nation’s future,it might be better than studying engineering.)
My old dad used to tell me that the reason U.S. workers could get paid so much more than Far Eastern workers was that our workers had so much better equipment to work with. This is not necessarily true any longer, and so our wages must very slowly move towards parity with Chinese wages. This will be a slow, but painful process.
President Obama seems to simply not “get it”about solar power and wind. When we taxpayers spend money to design better solar and wind power systems, those systems wind up getting made in the Far East. How this helps our workers is a mystery to me.
I also love President Obama endlessly referring to “clean coal.”There is no such thing as “clean coal.”Coal is coal. They can use all kinds of technology to immensely reduce pollution from coal. But there is no such magical thing as “clean coal.”This is not a problem for me at all. I am happy with whatever kind of coal anyone wants to burn to keep the lights on. But this idea that there is some magic thing called “clean coal”that is as non-polluting as wind is just nonsense. It is a bit worrisome to keep hearing Mr. Obama, our president, talking about something that is just a fantasy.
You know,I am getting so tired of fighting these battles… I think I will just go to sleep now. I’ll fight more tomorrow.
Washington Times May 27,2010. “American gun owners might not feel besieged, but they should. This week, the Obama administration announced its support for the United Nations Small Arms Treaty. This international agreement poses real risks for freedom both in the United States and around the world by making it more difficult –if not outright illegal –for law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.”
“The U.N. claims that guns used in armed conflicts cause 300,000 deaths worldwide every year,an inordinate number of which are the result of internal civil strife within individual nations. The solution proposed by transnationalists to keep rebels from getting guns is to make the global pool of weapons smaller through government action. According to recent deliberations regarding the treaty, signatory countries would be required to “prevent, combat and eradicate”various classes of guns to undermine “the illicit trade in small arms.”Such a plan would necessarily lead to confiscation of personal firearms.”
“This may seem like a reasonable solution to governments that don’t trust their citizens, but it represents a dangerous disregard for the safety and freedom of everybody. First of all,not all insurgencies are bad. As U.S. history shows, one way to get rid of a despotic regime is to rise up against it. That threat is why authoritarian regimes such as Syria,Cuba,Rwanda,Vietnam,Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone endorse gun control.”
“Political scientist Rudy Rummel estimates that the 15 worst regimes during the 20th century killed 151 million of their own citizens, which works out to 1.5 million victims per year. Even if all 300,000 annual deaths from armed conflicts can be blamed on the small-arms trade (which they cannot),governments are a bigger threat to most people than their neighbors.” . . . .
Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards;no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s,just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese, and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza ….. get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings …get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections anytime, and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360 ….. get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”
Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago when taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
This was in the Waco Tribune Herald,Waco,TX Nov 18 2010 –
It’s easy to just assume that all we have to do to make things better is to get the government to come up with some good sounding program and it will provide a great panacea for the future. Have a look at this video that illustrates just such a great sounding program. Widely touted by the main stream media, politicians, and pundits the “Cash for Clunkers”program was born. If you bought a new lower polluting, more efficient vehicle the government would give you $4000 for your old “clunker”to apply to the purchase! It would stimulate the auto industry, lower oil imports, remove old gas guzzlers and polluters from the road. Great idea? You be the judge.
What a Christmas present we got when we woke this morning Dec 17th to hear that the Omnibus bill is dead!! With Democrats calling the Republicans “hypocrites”over their earmarks inserted into the bill,Senator Reid (D-NV) withdrew the measure as support for it evaporated. Instead a temporary measure will be produced to fund the government for a couple months while the spending for the remainder of the fiscal year 2011 is settled by the new Congress taking office after Jan 5th.
One of the most amazing things to come out of this is the statement from Reid yesterday,“We have a constitutional duty to do congressionally directed spending and I don’t want to give up that responsibility. . . ” Where in that document is any such provision except perhaps in Senator Reid’s imagination? How can someone elected to the US Senate actually hold such a distorted view as to conclude that it is his responsibility to tax the people to provide benefits for a select few? No wonder congressional approval is down to 13%.
Dead along with the Omnibus bill is some 6000 plus earmarks of pork barrel spending for both Democrat and Republican districts to the tune of some eight billion dollars. Dead also is a billion in Obamacare funding for the current year. Dead,at least for now,is the federal land grabs that would have closed more public land to public access. Likewise dead for now is Reid’s legalization of online poker where it appears that the chips are now down and Reid is holding a losing hand.
Unlike the Obmacare bill where Peloci stated that they had to pass it to find out what was in it,with the Omnibus bill’s demise we will likely never know how many “gotchas”were actually stuffed into this huge package. According to Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell,“it was not so much the substance of the bill but the process”that caused the opposition. One of the big winners here was the congressional clerks. They are now spared the mind boggling task of having to read aloud all 1923 pages of garbage in this thing.
Also to be celebrated today is the tax bill has passed and will be signed by President Obama right away assuring that no one’s income taxes will go up January 1st. Small businesses will have a couple years freedom from the threat of increased taxes which will likely result in new real jobs finally beginning to free up. This is probably the first truly bipartisan measure passed under Obama and a real Christmas present to the American Taxpayer and the American worker.
Still up on the agenda is the “Dream Act”,the “START Treaty”,and the repeal of the “Don’t ask don’t tell”provision to allow gays to serve openly in the military. Hopefully they will all go the way of the Omnibus bill. These controversial issues should not be decided by a lame duck congress where many of the members were removed by their constituents only last month and are no longer responsible to the people.
We can only be reminded of Benjamin Franklin’s words: “No man’s life, liberty or fortune is safe while our legislature is in session.” This is even more true of a lame duck session.
In the past,Garland County Arkansas has not had a truly effective Republican Party. The county offices and the vast majority of the JP districts as well have been traditionally tightly held by Democrats. To suggest that someone run for office here as a Republican would be met with the comment that “You can’t win a county-wide office in Garland County as a Republican.”That myth was busted yesterday!!!
As a result of hard recruiting effort for good qualified candidates on the part of the local Republican party and the Garland County Tea Party,a slate of eighteen candidates for almost every Garland County office emerged. This was the first time ever in the history of this county that many of those offices had even received serious opposition. Of those candidates ALL but one won. The offices of county judge, county clerk, circuit clerk, tax assessor, treasurer, all fell to Republican challenges. The Quorum Court changed from nine Democrats and four Republicans to nine Republicans and four Democrats. Only one Democrat that ran against the new Republican challengers won a seat as a JP! Most of these positions have been held for forty years or more by Democrats. Some for 130 years and had never been held by a Republican!
Keith Crass tragically died Oct 27th
The sitting county judge, running for the state legislature, lost to the Republican Kieth Crass that tragically died of a heart attack last week. Keith had worked hard for the last 18 months to achieve a lifelong dream to go to the state legislature. I can think of no tribute to him that would be better than the one given by the voters of Garland County yesterday in his win in that election. Our heart felt condolences as well as our prayers go out to Keith’s family. According to state law, there will now be a new election to fill that office and the likelihood is that it too will be filled by a well-qualified Republican.
In this elections we saw lots of “dirty tricks”tried by a bunch of entrenched incumbents in an attempt to hang on to power. I had more than a dozen yard signs stolen from my property,a pattern that was repeated against Republican campaign signs all over the county. Some of them were stolen several times. Other signs were driven over by 4wd vehicles,or were covered by graffiti. Some were even shredded with the pieces left on the lawns. The local paper printed pro-incumbent articles, some on the front page, while refusing to publish opposing views in the closing days of the campaign except in very unusual occasions, but then what is unusual about that in Hot Springs,Arkansas?
Now the job for us the voters of Garland County will be to hold those new officers to their pledges to convert the county government from the tired old good-old-boy,tax-and-spend policies of the past to a sound and responsible business model for the future. They have a hard job to accomplish and if they are not responsive to those who elected them, in two years we will repeat the process with another slate of well-qualified candidates to replace them with others who will.
The myth is busted and the voters along with our kids and grandkids are the big winners in Garland County Arkansas on November 3rd,2010!
Here in Garland County Arkansas we have had a bit of a circus in recent months. It seems that back in ’08 we had three ladies who served in elected offices down at the court house saw that the Arkansas Public Retirement System (APERS) had a provision that said that if an elected official retires and is off the job for 90 days they can be elected or appointed to return to the same job and draw both their retirement pay as well as their regular pay. This would make their jobs pay not the normal $60 to $80 K per year, but almost double that!! Since they were Democrats in a state where Democrats are mostly unopposed for reelection they decided to “retire”at least on paper so they could double their pay for their next term for which they were unopposed.
I have seen a lot of information and mis-information here about our Garland County “double dippers”. I personally have no ill will about these ladies claiming what the legislators in the state of Arkansas allowed under the APERS rules. They had ever right to actually retire, spend 90 days off the job and then return and draw dual pay. That is the fault of the legislators that ever allowed such “double dipping”from people that received two years retirement credit for one year service in elected offices. It has been done elsewhere through the state in a quite legal, even if not a fully moral manner.
What concerns me is that this was done under “cover of darkness”. In early Oct 2008 these people went to the county clerk in Garland County and had her certify that they were “retired”as of that date. With the explicit knowledge of that county clerk and the county judge they then showed up in their previous offices and posed for three months impersonating elected officials. They hid the fact that they had retired from the Quorum Court for three months with the complicit assistance of the county clerk and the county judge. Now I am no lawyer, but I do believe that to falsely impersonate a police officer,a federal official,or any other public official is highly discouraged by the laws in all fifty states.
No amount of explanations as to how they were “misled by APERS”can make me believe that any APERS employee would actually recommend that they falsely pose as office holders for three months when they,as recent retirees had no official business in those offices. That just sounds like plain old garden variety fraud to me. Had I done that after retiring from the Air Force in ’83 I could have earned three years free room and board at the Fort Levenworth detention facility.
